i think i've been out of thailand only three weeks. so this coup comes as a real surprise. kha wie saw on cnn, like i on cna, our favourite places with some added soldiers, and he expressed my thoughts succinctly when he shouted "i dont know!" on the trans-eurasia line. so whats happened? the whole time i was there, there didnt seem to be sweeping sentiments of the kind that make a coup, only undercurrents (not of the beach types). now tanks line thanon ratchadamnoen klang near the klong stop where i fell in mad love with the taste of nam plaa. how come these things dont happen here? i'll just hope no guns are fired until everything boils over.

until the next time i descend on thailand, i'll have to make do with little malaysia trips and one big oz adventure

121106: a while later, there was no malaysian side trip, an indonesian one, and a trip up madeleine's garden of driving madness...nothing's happened in thailand, democracy's happened in USA, australia is five days away and im just about to book my next trip to thailand...
